Adding "nested" option

{{editprotected}} Please change the very first line from:

{| class="messagebox standard-talk"

to:

{| class="{{#ifeq:{{lc:{{{nested|}}}}}|yes|collapsible collapsed messagebox   nested-talk|{{#ifeq:{{lc:{{{small|}}}}}|yes|messagebox small-talk|messagebox   standard-talk}}}}"  |-  {{#ifeq:{{lc:{{{nested|}}}}}|yes|  ! colspan="2" style="text-align: center" {{!}} [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice   Hockey]]{{#if:{{{class|}}} |      (Rated   {{ucfirst:{{{class}}}}}-Class)|}}  }}

This will add the "nesting" option to the banner so it can be used with {{WikiProjectBannerShell}}. Please be sure to copy the code from this talk page rather than the wiki code because of the ampersands. Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 03:54, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Done. Cheers. --MZMcBride 04:08, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
The change was made incorrectly. Please see examples such as Talk:Jon Miller and Talk:Lloyd Pettit. I believe the problem is that there is a line break before nested-talk given the existence of the nested parameter; you may have copied one of SatyrTN's longer lines as two lines accidentally.
Note: I have also requested unprotection for this template. It is not a high-risk template. -- Madman bum and angel (talk - desk) 13:15, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
It's almost right now, but the &s need to be changed to &s (so you have   ). Sorry; that problem was in the code posted by SatyrTN -- he didn't mean for it to be copied from the page source, even though that's the best way to ensure it doesn't get broken. -- Madman bum and angel (talk - desk) 13:40, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Heh. Well, that works too. Thanks! -- Madman bum and angel (talk - desk) 13:41, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
You may want to look at Talk:Babe Dye for an example of how that looks as compared to other WikiProject banners. I think you'll find you do want to add the space back. -- Madman bum and angel (talk - desk) 13:43, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Done. As of my last change, it seems to tie in with the other banners on that page. Append "?action=purge" to the URL in your address bar if changes aren't updating. Thanks, Martinp23 13:45, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

  • We had a discussion in WikiProject Ice Hockey that the picture of an ice hockey rink was more recognizable then pucks or a skate. This image should not have been changed without further discussion. Flibirigit 18:34, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Can you provide a link to the discussion? I looked before I made the change and again now and I don't see anything. Was this recent? If not, we can just treat this as WP:BRD, remembering that consensus can change. --After Midnight 0001 23:55, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
I didn't know about the discusion... Maybe I was simply not part of the project. My reasons for changing it is that I thought the rink was rather vague, and I actually didn't know exactly what is was until I cliked on the image. Sorry for causing a mess... --Evilclown93(talk) 00:35, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
  • I am trying to find the discussion. I believe it happened when coach/player/arena stub tags were being renamed and images changed around. I don't think it was ever resolved. If it matters, we can post it to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ice Hockey Flibirigit 06:10, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
It looks like discussion is underway. Please let me know when consensus is reached or affirmed and I will help with any additional edits. Is everyone OK with leving the current image as is for the short-term while discussion is in progress? --After Midnight 0001 12:48, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Featured List

Should FL be added to the list of available classes here and on the Project's assessment page? I believe it's on a par with FA, but for list articles rather than full-blown articles. --JD554 (talk) 08:39, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

I would say yes to FL = Featured list. I would also suggest FT = Featured topic and perhaps DYK = Did you know if some content was featured. Flibirigit (talk) 19:08, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure about the others, but FL = Featured list is certainly on the {{Grading scheme}} template. I've created a Category:FL-Class Ice Hockey articles and was going to edit the {{Ice hockey}} template, but this can only be done by an admin. Could someone with admin rights add the necessary lines to the code for FL status? --JD554 (talk) 08:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

{{editprotected}} It seems that this edit caused the pull-down function (the Show/Hide link which displays list of related task forces and other notices) to disappear, also hiding its contents. Needs-photo

I suggest adding a needs-photo parameter and corresponding category to help in the gathering of photos needed. Alaney2k (talk) 14:11, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Done -Djsasso (talk) 14:26, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Would it be possible to either change the name of the category to Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of ice hockey so that the template {{reqphoto}} can be used as an alternative but place the request in the same category and/or could the options in= and imagedetails= be added to this template. (See {{Engineering}} as example). There are a number of ice hockey requests for images/photos in other categories that could then be added to the subject specific one that has been created here.Traveler100 (talk) 09:00, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
I suppose we could. I tend to strip out the reqphoto tag whenever I see it and fill out the parameters in the other project tags on the page because I often think the req photo is just a redundant tag. But thats just personal opinion. I don't really see how the engineering template would be similar. And technically the category name you have above implies the pictures are of ice hockey as opposed to being pictures needed in ice hockey articles. But thats probably me just being fussy. -Djsasso (talk) 14:56, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Moving from the many photo and image tags to the project template is my basic thinking too. Just do not want to loose some of the information in the requests such as location or exact subject matter. For example the of parameter in reqphoto of Talk:Canada Cup (ice hockey) or in the text of the reqimageother text of articles here Category:Wikipedia requested images-other like for Talk:1963 NHL Amateur Draft logo request.Traveler100 (talk) 21:13, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok I will take a look tomorrow to see if I can figure out how to code the of/in parameters for use in our template. I am sure no one will object to it being added and if they do it can easily be removed. -Djsasso (talk) 03:55, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
can I assume of and in will be the syntax, then I can edit a number of articles. Traveler100 (talk) 14:08, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Just realized we never changed the name of the category that this template uses. I have done so now. Hopefully that will fix whatever it was you needed fixing. -DJSasso (talk) 19:28, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
thanks, and good timing as about to create a sub-category Wikipedia requested photographs of ice hockey personnel and move all relevant requests out of the general sportpeople category.--Traveler100 (talk) 20:29, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
I am going to update the code on here to accept a bio= param so that the template will automatically put people into the ice hockey people subcat instead of just the main ice hockey cat that I just created. However I am about to leave town for a few days so I don't have time to figure out the coding to do that so I will do it when I get back. -DJSasso (talk) 00:28, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

+----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ After much trying to figure it out myself, I managed to get someone to take care of it for us. Its implemented now. -DJSasso (talk) 13:16, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

It has been suggested that the Ice Hockey logo be changed to Image:Hockey.svg. I guess a vote is in order? -- Hucz (talk · contribs) 21:06, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Capitalization

{{editprotected}} Why is "Ice Hockey" capitalized in "the coverage of Ice Hockey on Wikipedia"? This should be lowercase because ice hockey isn't a proper noun. Sorry for the obsessiveness, I couldn't resist. Cheers, Mm40 (talk) 01:46, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Norway Ice Hockey task force

Hi, could anyone with permission to edit this template add the necessary codes, so that the articles I have assessed to "Norway Ice Hockey task force" will show up in this category? I have mostly copied pages from the Swedish task force, so I guess those codes can be used in this template as well, just replace all instances of "Sweden" with "Norway"... =)

I also copy-pasted this bot user page from the Swedish one, which I afterwards realized are being updated by the bot itself! Do I need to have it deleted, or will it start overwriting the information once this template includes the new parameters?

If there is anything more I have to do, don't hesitate contacting me! =)

Thanks, in advance... lil2mas (talk) 01:39, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

You might want to ask on WP:HOCKEY if they want to actually make another task force. Usually we don't create a task force unless we have 5 users that are actively going to edit in it. We do this becaue we often have single editors all gung ho about creating one and it almost instantly becomes inactive. All you have to do is look at some of our other ones for examples of this. -DJSasso (talk) 22:56, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
Oh I see you have already created the pages etc for it. I would see if you can get other editors to join your task force before I make a change to the code here. -DJSasso (talk)

Oh, sorry! I didn't notice it was in the documentation, but of course I could've edit the documentation page myself. /HeyMid (contributions) 23:06, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Request for photographs and images

To help address the many requests for photographs People-photo-bot has moved article talk pages from Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of people and Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of sportspeople to Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of ice hockey personnel if it contains the templates {{ice hockey}}, {{WikiProject Ice Hockey}}. Members of this project are invited to address the requests for images listed. Please note that some articles may now have an appropriate photograph and that the need-photo flag has simply not been removed, this can also be checked using the Image Existence Checker link on the category page. If a page has been incorrectly moved please inform me on my talk page.--Traveler100 (talk) 19:09, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

The importance attribute

Should we create the corresponding categories for the importance levels? Or shall we wait until feedback regarding this new test has come? HeyMid (contributions) 22:23, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

No, do not create the categories. The wikiproject is split on if we will go forward with this. I was only adding it so that some things could be tested. No point in creating categories which might end up getting deleted again. -DJSasso (talk) 22:34, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Anaheim Ducks

Can someone please add the new Anaheim Ducks Taskforce to the template? Thank You. :) --CASportsFan (talk) 07:08, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Here is the image I created for the template:
Have you checked with the ice hockey project first to make sure you have enough active editors interested in creating a new task force? Generally we don't add a new one until we see that there are a number of active people interested in it and actively working on articles in that task forces scope, in general 5 people is usually mentioned. Most of our task forces get created and then fall inactive fast so we haven't been adding new task forces lately, most discussion takes place on the ice hockey project directly, instead of breaking off into task forces. -DJSasso (talk) 14:34, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
I wanted to get everything started, then I would go out and find people! I didn't realize that they like to do it the other way around . . . --CASportsFan (talk) 09:05, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
It's just a case of this happening a number of times, and nothing ever coming of it. The hockey project just tends to do everyone on the main project page instead of fracturing off. :) I fully support the idea if you can find some people. -DJSasso (talk) 11:43, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
Got 3 (including myself), got to get at least 2 more! Haha :) --CASportsFan (talk) 07:22, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Photo image needs to be replaced

File:Camera bw.png, a file uploaded at Commons, has been deleted as a copyright violation; this means that the image shown in the "needs-photo" parameter is a red link with the number of pixels. In other words, this means that the image needs to be replaced by another. I think that File:Camera-photo.svg would work well as a replacement. Any thoughts? HeyMid (contribs) 20:21, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Done. Thanks for the notice. Resolute 22:22, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Change photo requests to image requests

As part of a nearly-completed shift to distinguish requests for photos from requests for images in general, it is requested that this template be modified to place talk pages in "Wikipedia requested images of..." categories, rather than the old "Wikipedia requested photographs of..." categories. As such, please supplement all references to "photo(s) of..." and "photograph(s) of..." with "image(s) of..." in both the template and its documentation, while maintaining backwards compatibility for the old "photo" parameters. In particular, change "photograph or picture" to simply "image". Note that the "Wikipedia requested images of..." categories have already been created. Thank you! -- s w p b T 15:30, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

I am tempted to leave it as is. There are very few cases on hockey articles where an image would not be a photo. -DJSasso (talk) 19:32, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
For this category, that may be true, but the "image-requested" parameter should still be supported, which it's currently not. -- s w p b T 14:49, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Mock-up in sandbox. -- s w p b T 14:41, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Mock-up doesn't take into account we are looking for photos and would be placing all the requests in the wrong place. -DJSasso (talk) 14:50, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
I've changed the mock-up so that photo requests go to the photo category. -- s w p b T 14:52, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
That is much better. I would suggest that for all of them. For the future ability to choose either. -DJSasso (talk) 15:01, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
That's not a terrible idea, and I won't get in the way of you changing other mock-ups (and non-protected templates) accordingly, but I probably won't be doing much of that work myself. I've put a tremendous effort into this transition already, and real-world responsibilities are calling. Anyway, if it's not done now, it can always be done later. I think in most cases (like, say, comics), it's not particularly pressing; certainly not as pressing as the primary effect of the edit requests. -- s w p b T 16:29, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
